Hart served as Technical Advisor, and the film was shot on locations around Lincoln County, New Mexico, where the actual events had taken place. The acting isn't especially good and the happy ending tacked on to the American release was not only sappy but idiotic (the Kid and the girl ride off happily into the sunset!), but with the sound off the film has the flavor of authenticity.
